How did SAAC helped me as a student?
Going to SAAC volleyball has been one of the coolest trips I have had the chance to have with the school. Not only that but the SAAC tournament by itself it also brought me a lot of help to me as a person.
Training for SAAC was not easy. From the first day they told me that I had got in the team it was hard training and a lot of commitment from every student. First of all you needed to really commit since if you are a rookie as I was this year you have never played on the varsity level or maybe as in my occasion you have never played volleyball before the day the tryouts started. Not only you needed to commitment because you needed to practice to improve your skill but also you needed to commit and come to every training we had and that normally was 4 days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.)As I just stated I need to go to practice on Saturday and I don’t know about other students but that for me is a BIG sacrifice since we needed to wake up really early to be at 9 am at school and train until 1 pm. Not only that but sometimes we played matches on Saturday so plus waking up on one of the two days schools lets you relax you had the pressure of the match and to show your coaches your improvement so you could be on the starting team.
Not only the training tiered me but also the amount of abilities I needed to have for the last week of September (SAAC). When we started training we needed how to learn all this different skills and ways of doing a variety of exercise that I have never learned before so basically I was exploring a new sport that I had never played before and gaining the skills needed. I applied perseverance when training and going to all trainings. I showed initiative when trying out a sport that I have never played before and give myself the time to think in my health and to some kind of sport .I showed collaboration since I had to interact and work a lot with my other 9 team mates and also listen to the tips that my coaches and teammates that had already been in SAAC gave me.
This was helpful for me now as a student so I could apply al the planning and commitment skills I learned for now and for the future. I would also be able to apply the perseverance of sacrificing a few hours of my free time (Saturdays mornings) to improve in a skill you need for a class or even for a job.
